The blue gold

We all recognise this iconic flower of Provence. With one of the region’s most distinctive fragrances, lavender is an essential part of the Provençal landscape. It is also one of L’Occitane en Provence’s most cherished ingredients and has been used in our products since 1981.

EN VÄLKÄND CERTIFIERING

Authentic lavender from Haute-Provence, Lavandula angustifolia, is protected by a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) certification, guaranteeing the quality and traceability of its essential oil. To qualify for this certification, the lavender must be grown at an altitude of over 800 metres within a designated geographical area and distilled using traditional methods.

WE RISE TO THE CHALLENGE

Preserving the cultivation of high-quality lavender on the plateaus of Haute-Provence is essential for maintaining biodiversity and supporting the unique agricultural landscapes of this dry, rocky region. This represents a significant challenge for both the industry and the region itself, one that L’Occitane is committed to addressing through long-term initiatives.
